NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman met with Quebec government officials on Thursday in regards to a possible return of the NHL to Quebec City. Unfortunately, the update on this is not good, and little to no progress has been made on a potential NHL return to Quebec City.
According to Quebec Finance Minister, Eric Girard, the NHL is not looking at moving back to Quebec City and did not have a positive response to the meeting.
Quebec currently has a large fan base and an NHL-ready arena. Unfortunately the NHL has their priorities set on other cities at the moments. NHL player agent Allan Walsh summed it up well.
"Bettman will do everything in his power to prevent the NHL's return to Quebec City."
Quebec has made it clear that they want an NHL franchise back in the provincial capital. Based on the outcome of today's meeting, we likely won't see a team in Quebec City anytime soon.
