A former Maple Leafs draft pick and Toronto Marlies defenseman has officially had his latest contract terminated following mysterious injury.
Some very tough news for a former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick has emerged this week.
Andrew Nielsen, who was selected in the third round (65th overall) in the
2015 NHL Entry Draft, has run into a snag after deciding to sign a new contract in Europe.
Andrew Nielsen leaves SSK - We have agreed in consultation with Andrew to terminate his contract. We wish him good luck in the future, says sports director Emil Georgsson."
Toronto Maple Leafs Draft Pick and Marlies Defenseman Runs into Issues with Latest Contract after Revealing Injury
Georgsson explained that Nielsen called the day before he was supposed to be back in Sweden to say he had been injured after signing a new deal over the summer.

Nielsen showed promise after getting drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, but other than some preseason games he spent his career in the AHL, ECHL, and a couple of different European leagues.
The Alberta native played just five regular season games for Sodertalje in 2024-25, scoring a goal. He suited up for another 12 in the HockeyAllsvenskan playoffs, netting a goal and two assists.
