Former Leafs star Mitch Marner was left visibly rattled as he revealed the details of fan abuse that he dealt with before his departure this summer.

When wondering why Mitch Marner decided to leave Toronto this summer, one topic of conversation was brought up a few times in how that the star winger was abused several times by the fans.
Social media posts about his performance and character had been ongoing for years, but it also comes with the territory of being the star player making big money in a hot market. However. Marner revealed some sordid details about the fan abuse in his recent sit down interview with TSN's Mark Masters that might change the equation.
My wife's father called me and goes that I wanna let you know we got people sending us screenshots of the guy posting your address online, saying that if people want to come pay us a visit and say their goodbyes in a quotation way, here's the address. It was a little tough, we kinda dealt with it over the last 2 years in a way.
Marner continues by saying that he appreciates the love that the fans have for the team but it crosses the line when they start threatening the safety and well-being of your family
The market is very passionate, they love their team, I know it, I was born and raised here, I've been part of Leafs nation for a long time, but when your family's safety comes into question, especially when you have a new son, I don't think it's acceptable. Having full time security at your house for two weeks after the playoffs just to make sure no one's coming to your house. Also safety-wise of walking your dog and your child.

By the end of the clip, Marner looks visibly dishevelled by his own recounts of what he had to go through this year, and it's certainly not fair for his family either. As he says himself, it's unfortunate that it had to get to this point but needing full-time security outside his house for 2 weeks after the playoffs because someone shared his address is pretty extreme.
It's not the way that anyone would have wanted his tenure to end but now he can move forward and look ahead to his next chapter in Vegas as a member of the Golden Knights for the next 8 seasons.
