Toronto native Dougie Hamilton going under the knife on Wednesday
Toronto, Ontario native Dougie Hamilton and the New Jersey Devils received some unfortunate news on Tuesday which could have lengthy layoff implications.
Hamilton was struck in the jaw by a puck on Sunday in a game against the Washington Capitals, which took him out of of the contest, limiting the 28-year-old to just 2 minutes and 40 seconds of ice time on the night.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Hamilton would undergo a surgical procedure on Wednesday to fix a broken jaw. At this point, the timeline for his recovery is unclear, but an update is expected following his procedure on Wednesday.
Hamilton signed a monster deal with the Devils as a free agent this summer, cashing in with a $63M contract over 7 years. The right-shot defender carries a $9M cap hit.
Hamilton has been a solid addition to the blueline for the Devils this season, contributing 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 30 games. Some very unfortunate news. The Devils are going to miss Hamilton significantly.
