Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom have reunited! It was announced today that the Detroit Red Wings have hired franchise legend, Nicklas Lidstrom as their new VP of Hockey Operations.
Lidstrom is regarded as one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history. He played over 1500 games in the league, and won 7 Norris Trophies, an Olympic gold medal, and 4 Stanley Cups - 3 of which were won as a teammate of Red Wings GM, Steve Yzerman.
Yzerman is one of the best general managers in hockey and proved it with the groundwork he had laid with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He is now in the process of turning the Red Wings into a powerhouse. He and Lindstrom will now look to replicate the magic that they had has players in Detroit.
Lidstrom is now back in the NHL, where he belongs, and he will certainly be a key contributor to what is an already exciting young team in the Motor City.
