Legendary Hockey Night in Canada star Don Cherry has confirmed some sad and disappointing news in a recent interview with reporter Joe Warmington.
It's been nearly 6 years since the legendary Don Cherry was fired by Sportsnet for some pointed and controversial comments surrounding the purchase of poppies and support of Canadian veterans for Remembrance Day.

In the wake of his removal from the national broadcasts, Cherry and his son, Tim, opted to start their own podcast, which kept the hockey icon involved in the sport and able to share his many stories with his listeners and supporters.

Cherry Has Earned His Retirement
Cherry's tenure on "Coaches Corner" lasted nearly four decades and while it met an unfortunate end, Cherry was able to share his passion and love for the sport for six more years with his podcast.
Now 91 years of age, Cherry has given the hockey community more than enough of that passion and has earned his retirement.
It seems sad to think of hockey without Don Cherry in any form, but as Cherry said in his comments this week, "everything has its time."
