Veteran forward Scott Laughton left Saturday's game with an injury and the Maple Leafs have provided an update on his status following the loss to the Bruins.
It's been a tough start to the year for Scott Laughton, who had missed the entire year thus far following a speculated broken foot during the pre-season, and now the veteran forward appears to be in line to miss more time.
Laughton was lined up and absolutely flattened by Boston Bruins defender
Nikita Zadorov, who appeared to catch Laughton in the head. The Leafs forward was slow to get up, looking dazed, and did not return to the game.
Following the game, the Leafs provided an update on Laughton, with Craig Berube already informing the media and fans that we should not expect to see Laughton in the lineup tonight against Carolina.
The Oakville, Ontario native was originally setting himself up for a rebound season after an especially strong training camp. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for Laughton, who has been limited to a little over 1 game of action this season thus far.
It's unknown whether Zadorov will face any potential supplemental discipline as a result of the hit, in which there was a lot of head contact, but given the fact that the Leafs were the victims and not the perpetrators here, we probably shouldn't hold our breath.
With Laughton confirmed out against Carolina on Sunday, his next opportunity to suit up will be on Tuesday in Boston, but that doesn't look favourable, given how shaken he was after the hit, presenting some symptoms of a concussion. Very unfortunate start for the hometown forward.
