During a year-end news conference with reporters, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving insisted the team will be going through big changes over the summer.

In the biggest signal yet that the Toronto Maple Leafs have no interest in running it back once again, GM Brad Treliving has told reporters big changes are coming over the summer.
In a year-end news conference, Treliving said getting the same result year over year is no longer and option, and it's time to shake things up.
"There's some DNA that has to change in our team. If you keep getting to the same result, there's some DNA that needs to change. That's on me going forward. We've now started the planning, and it's early, for putting a team together for 2025-26."
This can be taken as an indication that pending free agent Mitch Marner, who reportedly turned down multiple trade offers at the trade deadline, won't be brought back.
Treliving also discussed the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and their second round series against the Florida Panthers. He praised the Panthers for setting the bar of what is needed for success, but said the end result will stick with him for a long time.
"When you think you have a chance to win and you don't, it stays with you. [Florida] set the bar in division and they set the bar in the league. That's what we aspire to."
Outside of Marner, Treliving must also decide what, if anything, should be offered to pending free agent John Tavares, and what restricted free agent and budding star Matthew Knies should get on his next deal.
If Treliving is intent on changing the team's DNA, some of the top names entering free agency on July 1 include Sam Bennett, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Brad Marchand.
