While many choose to relax over the summer months, Matthew Knies has plans to become an even more powerful force for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

With word that negotiations are already taking place on an extension for restricted free agent Matthew Knies, the young forward has plans over the summer to turn himself into an even more explosive force for the Leafs.
Knies had a breakout season in 2024-25, putting up career highs in goals (29), assists (29) and points (58).
However, that doesn't appear to be enough for the 22-year-old. His summer plans include heading home to train with former University of Minnesota teammates who have made the jump to the NHL.
According to The Athletic's Joshua Kloke, Knies will be working on adding more explosiveness to his skating, while also bulking up to become an even more powerful power forward.

A Big Payday on the Way for Matthew Knies

Analyst Paul Bissonnette is recommending the Maple Leafs be firm with Knies and offer him $8.5 million per year for eight years, while suggesting they should let him walk if an offer sheet comes in for more than that.
That is easier said than done as there are several teams in the NHL coveting a player of Knies' unique blend of size and talent. An offer sheet from another team isn't a given, but there's a very good chance someone makes him an offer that would be difficult to say no to.
Former teammate Mark Giordano believes Mitch Marner will test free agency, making it even more important for Toronto to get pen to paper when it comes to Knies.
