David Kampf, who quickly found a new team after his contract termination, took to social media on Saturday to release a statement about his time with the Maple Leafs.
Acquiring
Scott Laughton at the trade deadline last season seemed to mark the beginning of the end for David Kampf's time in Toronto.
Laughton's presence had to push someone out, and Kampf eventually found himself in press-box for 12 of the Maple Leafs' 13 post-season.
Kampf Left Off of Opening Night Roster
Despite a handful of injuries, including a significant one for the aforementioned Laughton, Kampf was left off of the Leafs' opening night roster and sent down to the Toronto Marlies after clearing waivers.
Although Craig Berube was clearly not a fan of Kampf, many were baffled by the fact the Leafs did not recall the Czech native when they needed depth at center.
Instead, Kampf remained with the Marlies, before taking a leave of absence and ultimately having his contract terminated by the Leafs on Friday. After having his contract terminated, Kampf signed a 1-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks.
Kampf Issues Statement On Time With Leafs
As his time in Toronto came to an end, Kampf took to social media to issue a statement, thanking the Leafs, his teammates and fans for their support over the years.
"It's been a pleasure Toronto. A great chapter of my life but the time has come to move on. I gave everything I had to this organization and city and I'II always be thankful for the opportunity I got here. Thank you to all my teammates I got to spend those years with I wish you guys all the best. Also, special thank you to each and every one of the Leafs staff for taking care of me and my family through the years. Toronto will always have a special place in our hearts. Excited for the future with Canucks!"
Never an offensive threat, Kampf was a very dependable defensive forward that could be trusted in all situations. The Czech forward will now join the Canucks for the remainder of the season, while the Leafs continue to search for a way to upgrade their team in an attempt to turn their season around.
