Former Leafs defenseman Tyson Barrie continues his retirement media tour, but his prediction for this year's Stanley Cup Champion may not sit well with Leafs Nation.

At the end of August 34-year-old Tyson Barrie announced his retirement from the NHL with a hilarious Instagram post poking fun at himself.
In announcing his retirement, the former third-round pick comically admitted to NHL on SirusXM radio host Dave McCarthy that it was a mutual decision between himself and the 32 NHL clubs to call it a career.

Tyson Barrie's Stanley Cup Prediction Won't Sit Well With Leafs Nation

On Tuesday, the 822-game veteran appeared on the 'Spittin' Chiclets' podcast where he was asked about the type of season Vegas and Mitch Marner are going to have.
"I think he's going to do so great in Vegas...I think he's going to have a hell of a year. I think they could (win the Stanley Cup)...I think Marns is going to have a f***ing unbelievable playoffs this year. That's all I can say about that."
After nine years of post-season disappointment, the last thing Leafs Nation wants to hear is that Marner is going to win a cup in his first season with a different team. However, Barrie's prediction may not be far off given the success of former Leafs following their departure from the hockey-crazed market.
Phil Kessel was traded in 2015 and went on to win back-to-back cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017 before winning his third and final cup with Vegas.
Ironically, Nazem Kadri, the player the Leafs traded for Barrie and Alexander Kerfoot went on to win a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 and a few years prior, both Tyler Bozak and Alex Steen won a cup with Craig Berube in St. Louis.
Barrie joins a host of analysts that have predicted Marner to be a major contributor for Vegas this season, but Leafs Nation is hoping that without him as a distraction, it will finally give the Leafs the depth they need to go on their own lengthy post-season run.
