One NHL analyst has projected the Toronto Maple Leafs to finish much higher than expected in Atlantic Division than many originally predicted.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have undergone significant changes this offseason.
Opinions on the Leafs' upcoming season have been mixed -- some analysts predict a strong showing, while others expect a step back.
NHL Network analyst Stu Grimson recently shared his projection for Toronto's finish in the Atlantic Division:
"The Leafs perhaps may take a step back, but should still finish in the top two spots. I am bullish on the Leafs and Panthers rosters, and I do think absent any injuries, those are your top two finishers."
Grimson's optimism reflects the fact that Toronto still retains its core players and arguably has more depth than it has had in years.
The new additions also align better with head coach Craig Berube's hard-nosed, defensively structured style of play.
Still, not all analysts agree. On the same broadcast, Ken Daneyko projected the Leafs to finish fourth in the division, suggesting they've taken a step backward.
Only time will tell where Toronto will land in the standings -- but with a refreshed identity and renewed motivation, the Maple Leafs will be looking to prove their critics wrong.
