Berube At a Loss For Words, Furious With Maple Leafs After Two Sloppy Losses

With another disappointing showing in the books, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube remains speechless with his team's effort in two most-recent losses.
After Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media following their 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins, he had to come back out and face the music less than 24 hours later with the same sour taste in his mouth.
While their effort wasn't as appalling as it was on Saturday night against the Bruins, the Leafs still managed to blow a 2-goal lead against the Carolina Hurricanes as they were handed another regulation defeat to drop their record to 8-7-1.
Berube pointed to his team's defensive structure and goaltending as the catalysts for their loss on Saturday after
Anthony Stolarz allowed 4 goals on 19 shots before being pulled. Additionally, they were allowing far too many odd-man rushes, whether it was Stolarz or
Dennis Hildeby in between the pipes.
It was the same song and dance last night against a far better opponent. Not only were there breakaways and odd-man rushes aplenty, but the Hurricanes fired 47 shots on goal, including 22 in the final frame to the Maple Leafs' 2, as they made them pay for their mistakes.
Turnover after turnover cost us the game tonight. We didn't check anybody tonight. We didn't win any battles tonight. It's two games in a row.
Berube then added that the issues are squarely on the defensive side of the puck, since the team is scoring goals at a high clip. Entering last night's slate of games, the Leafs were ranked 5th league-wide in goals per game (3.67), but were 30th in goals against (3.67).
We're scoring enough goals every game to win, but we're letting in too many goals. So, pretty much the season is we don't value the defensive side of the puck enough.
The Leafs are playing far too loose in their front of their goaltenders and it's starting to show on the scoreboard, as well as Berube's body language. The veteran bench boss is seemingly at a loss for words over their recent stretch of play and will be looking for answers as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, they have to get right back on the horse, as their next chance to get back into the win column will come Tuesday night when they visit the Boston Bruins.
