Still, even with the movement in Toronto this summer, the Leafs appear to be missing a piece in the top-6, and some believe that Jack Roslovic can fill that role. However, ex-Leafs defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo is not one of them.
During Tuesday morning's edition of TSN 1050's First Up, Colaiacovo used his platform to lobby against the addition of Roslovic to the current Leafs' lineup.
"Yeah, I'm not wasting my time for Jack Roslovic, and I'm not trying to disrespect the player. I don't see him as a top-6 player for the Maple Leafs, and because he can't be a top-6 player on the Maple Leafs, he's not going to beat out anybody in the bottom-6 with the way he plays on this group. Especially with the way the coach wants to play, so, moving on."
While we don't yet know for sure what the Leafs' line combinations will look like for the start of the season, it appears likely that the 24-year-old Maccelli will receive the first look in the top-6, given the obvious offensive potential there.
As Colaiacovo alluded to, if that happens, Roslovic isn't exactly suited for a bottom-6 energy role given the style of game he plays.
The panel also discussed the idea that the next addition for the Maple Leafs, if they do want to add a top-6 forward, will likely be via the trade market.
