The NHL's cover athlete for EA's NHL 26 has officially been revealed and while he is certainly deserving, some will not be too fond of the choice.
The Florida Panthers are now undeniably a dynasty, firmly placing themselves on the NHL's radar with two consecutive Stanley Cup championships.
At the heart of that success has been the ever-controversial but undeniably talented
Matthew Tkachuk, who joined Florida via trade from the Calgary Flames in 2022.
In recognition of his elite play and growing presence in the league, EA Sports has named Tkachuk the face of NHL 26, the most popular hockey video game franchise in the world.
NHL 26 missed a potential opportunity to continue the sibling theme by featuring Matthew alongside his brother,
Brady Tkachuk, captain of the Ottawa Senators as two of the Maple Leafs' most heated rivals.
While that would have made for a compelling cover, Matthew's integral role in both of Florida's championship run's makes it fitting that he receives solo recognition.
Though often labeled a "pest" for his ability to get under opponents' skin, Tkachuk's talent is undeniable. He has built a reputation not just as a physical agitator, but as one of the most impactful players in the NHL -- proven by both his stats and hardware.
