The Toronto Maple Leafs may be welcoming Easton Cowan into the fold this season, and one popular Maple Leafs podcast reveals which NHL player he most closely resembles.

With NHL training camps officially opening up in just over a month's time, we're going to begin to see players soon returning to their respective NHL cities to begin preparing for the rigors of camp and the competition that awaits them.
For players like rookie Easton Cowan, making the Maple Leafs is not a given, especially when you consider how many NHL forwards the Leafs current have on the roster after the Nick Robertson contract extension, the Dakota Joshua, Nicolas Roy and Matias Maccelli trades and the Michael Pezzetta signing.
Cowan is not guaranteed a roster spot, but if he can come in and show the Leafs that he can provide something to the roster that they may be missing or have in limited supply, perhaps he can sneak in and steal a roster spot come opening night.
Recently, the SDPN crew discussed who Easton Cowan may most closely resemble at the NHL level, and while Adam Wylde admitted that we don't fully know that yet, he had someone mention to him that Cowan could be the Leafs' version of Travis Konecny.
"Listen, that [Konecny comparable] is really good. That's really f*****g good, but the idea that he's going to come in and be Mitch Marner -- I think some people have that in their heads for some reason."

Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has another interesting comparable that should hit close to home

Konecny wasn't the only comparable tossed around. Steve "Dangle" Glynn also mentioned Nazem Kadri's name.
"The Cowan-Konecny stuff, I can see... I can see [it]. Just looking at the numbers -- he's a bit of a bastard, and also, Konecny is a player I've talked about for years, because you don't need to be big to be a complete petulant, pesky a**hole. Like, Konecny is listed at 5'10, 192 lbs. Like, he is ordinary in terms of size... I think Cowan would be more of a playmaker... why didn't we land on Kadri [as a Cowan comparable]?"

Dangle's reason for bringing up Kadri is not only just because both players were London Knights and Maple Leafs draft picks -- it's because both players have the tendency to be a bit of a prick on the ice. If Cowan can bring that, he'll give himself a chance.
"There's something that he needs to bring to the table, and that's 'be an a**hole'. Like, if the two names we're bringing up are Konecny and Kadri, you need to be someone who throws other players off their game."

Dangle also mentioned the fact that Cowan, like Kadri and Konecny, is not an overly large player, but with both comparables building a career on being difficult to play against, if Cowan can evlovle into that sort of player archetype at the NHL level, he'll most likely earn a spot, because those guys are valuable to any NHL team who is looking to contend for a Stanley Cup.
