With the Leafs looking for help on the wing, they have officially been linked to Dallas Stars power forward Mason Marchment, who began his career in Toronto.
The Dallas Stars are entering the off-season with little cap space and a lot of question marks with veterans in need of extensions. From
Jamie Benn to
Matt Duchene to
Mikael Granlund, the Stars seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place and that's where the Toronto Maple Leafs can enter the conversation.
In order to be able to sign Granlund or Duchene,
the Stars will have to move off of current roster players like Mason Marchment. The Maple Leafs have been linked to the power forward thus far and it seems more likely that a deal can come to fruition, at least according to recent reports from David Pagnotta.
He mentions that Marchment is the ideal player that the Maple Leafs will be targeting and based on his intangibles and on-ice skills, he would fit seamlessly into Craig Berube's system.
The Leafs signed Marchment as an undrafted prospect back in 2018 but he only managed 4 appearances with the big club. He then moved on to Florida and Dallas and has accumulated 74 goals and 178 points over his last 265 games between 2021 and 2025.
Marchment is coming off successive seasons where he scored 22 goals while averaging 15:20 TOI this past season along with 53 PIMs, a plus-15 rating, and 79 hits in just 62 contests. Playoff production would be the one area he needs improvement in as he's collected just 16 points in 49 games for Dallas over the last 3 seasons.
While a deal for Marchment would be tough to complete in different circumstances, the fact that Dallas is dealing with salary cap issues almost makes this a slam dunk opportunity. They only have $4.955 million to work with this summer and with another Conference Finals elimination in the books as well as a new head coach on the way, changes are fully expected to occur.
The Maple Leafs will assuredly need some more help on the wings with
Mitch Marner's expected departure, and with salary cap room to work with for once, a reunion with Marchment is definitely in the cards if they can find the right assets to entice Dallas just enough.
