A once promising prospect for the Maple Leafs has found a new home for the 2025-2026 season to keep his slim hopes of an NHL career alive.
A smaller, skilled forward that fit the mold of Kyle Dubas' preferred player, Voit spent the following two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League racking up points with the Sarnia Sting. Voit was expected to at least challenge for a roster spot on the Toronto Marlies ahead of the 2023-2024 season, but
was injured during the rookie tournament.
His first pro season wasn't much of one as he dealt with injury after injury, skating in a total of just 6 games in the ECHL and AHL. Last season, Voit managed to stay healthy, but spent the season with the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL tallying 8 goals and 37 points in 63 games.
Maple Leafs Direction Change Led to Ty Voit's Departure
Already undersized and a long-shot to find a spot on the Marlies under the new regime of Brad Treliving, Voit and the Maple Leafs
agreed to mutually terminate his contract to allow the 22-year-old to search for opportunities elsewhere.
Less than a month later, Voit landed an ECHL deal with the Utah Grizzlies.
While it's no AHL deal, Voit will have a far better opportunity to land with an AHL team or possibly NHL team now that he isn't tied to the Maple Leafs organization, giving him a better chance to keep his slim NHL dreams alive.
A victim of unfortunate circumstances with injury, Voit's development was unfortunately derailed and slowed, essentially forcing his slide down the depth chart in the Leafs' organization. Hopefully a fresh start will give him the chance he needs at success over the next few seasons.
