Panthers Target Maple Leafs Goaltender Joseph Woll With Another Head Shot in Game 2

The major storyline coming out of Game 1 between the Maple Leafs and the Panthers was Sam Bennett's hit to the head of Anthony Stolarz during a power play net-drive.

Bennett denied any wrongdoing on the play, first suggesting that the hit was not delivered with any force, then sharing that he had no intention of hurting his former teammate on the play.

Now, we have another very questionable play coming from a Panthers player on a Leafs goaltender -- this time, a flying elbow from defenseman Aaron Ekblad while attempting to glove a puck into the Leafs' net -- an already illegal play even without the contact with the goaltender.

The play occurred early in the game, and once again, the Leafs allowed cooler heads to prevail, not going overboard to dispense some on-ice justice.

Instead, the team played a resilient, defensively-sound game, capitalizing on their scoring chances and taking a 2-0 series lead with a thrilling 4-3 regulation win over their Atlantic Division rival.

Woll was not injured, whereas Stolarz was, the hit didn't receive nearly as much attention from the media. Still, the fact that the Panthers have had two players make blatant contact with the Leafs' goaltender inside of his own crease, it's pretty obvious that the Panthers have been given a green light to target the opposing goalies.

The fact that the NHL's Department of Player Safety continues to let these things go is a miscarriage of justice and it's grounds for Player Safety head George Parros to be replaced this summer.
