Former Maple Leafs forward Nick Foligno and the Chicago Blackhawks announced that the 37-year-old captain will have to take a leave of absence for a very unfortunate reason.
Nick Foligno's Injury History is Well Documented
A back injury limited Foligno to just seven regular season games and four post-season games with the Leafs -- not ideal considering
what they gave up to acquire him.
Since leaving Toronto, Foligno has remained fairly healthy in two seasons with the Boston Bruins, and now in his third season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Family Matters Force Nick Foligno to Step Away From Blackhawks
After four games with the Hawks this season, Foligno will out of the lineup indefinitely. Unfortunately, it is not related to his own injuries, but rather a very serious concern involvining his daughter's health.
The Blackhawks shared a statement on Wednesday afternoon confirming that the team's captain will be stepping away to be with his daughter, Milana, as she undergoes a follow-up surgery that is related to her congenital heart disease.
Milana
underwent an experimental surgery just days after her birth in 2013. The surgery was a success, but given the nature of congenital heart disease, it requires a lifetime of checkups and treatments.
At this time, we wish the Foligno family all the best and Milana a speedy recovery so that she can get back to cheering on her dad at the 'Madhouse on Madison'.
