William Nylander has been arguably the Maple Leafs' best playoff performer in the Matthews/Marner era, and a new development proves that claim.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have built a nice lead for themselves in their 2nd Round series against the Florida Panthers with a thrilling 4-3 win on Wedneaday evening in Game 2.
After Anthony Stolarz was taken out by a stiff elbow to the head from Panthers winger Sam Bennett in Game 1, the Leafs were forced to lean on 26-year-old Joseph Woll, who rose to the occasion, stopping 25 shots, including a save to preserve a late lead, which stunned Leafs teammate Matt Murray.
Woll was not the only standout performer on the evening, as William Nylander scored one of the more impressive goals we've seen in this year's playoffs, showcasing his strong hand-eye coordination by deflecting a puck off of his own skate up to his stick and batting it past Sergei Bobrovsky to tie the game at 2 goals apiece.
Nylander's high rate of production in these playoffs prompted The Athletic's James Mirtle to do some digging. He revealed an insane stat during an appearance on the JD Bunkis Podcast on Thursday:
"I've got a crazy stat to throw at you. I was looking at this; the last 5 post-seasons, Nylander is second, only to Nathan MacKinnon, in goals per game in the playoffs. He has more goals per game than [Leon] Draisaitl over the last 5 post-seasons."

Even Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube is Astounded by the Play of William Nylander:

First-year Leafs coach Craig Berube has quickly adapted to coaching the Swedish star as well, revealing what his strategy is with Nylander has been through 8 playoff games thus far.
"Just leave him alone," Berube said. "Nothing gets to him. He doesn't feel pressure. There's no too big of a stage for him... He wants to be there. I don't think he feels pressure or anything like that. He just plays."
As The Athletic's Jonas Siegel pointed out on Thursday, Nylander is the first Maple Leafs player to score at least 6 goals and 13 points in a single playoff run in over two decades.
If the Leafs are going to exorcize some playoff demons, they need their stars to play like stars, and the Core 4 have, in large, done that this year.
It also doesn't hurt that the goaltending has been good, the defense is much improved, and the Leafs have a very deep group of forwards after the additions of Steven Lorentz this summer and Scott Laughton at the trade deadline.
As far as Nylander goes, he is currently leading the Leafs in both playoff goals and playoff points. So far, he's proven to be worth every single penny of his 8-year, $92M deal.
