The Toronto Maple Leafs have provided an update on the Joseph Woll situation just one day after claiming young goalie Cayden Primeau off of waivers.

There was some concern in Toronto during the early stages of training camp when goaltender Joseph Woll took a leave of absence from the team for personal family reasons with no timetable for a return to action.
Matters only intensified when the Leafs brought in veteran goalie James Reimer on a PTO, which had many in the market feeling like the Woll absence could end up being a lengthy one.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving has offered little in the way of information about Woll thus far, but on Tuesday, he did provide an update to keep fans and the media informed about the situation.

Brad Treliving Shares What He Can About Joseph Woll

Treliving told the media on Tuesday that Woll is progressing, but he still could not provide a timeline for his return.
"No updates there. We think things are progressing well, but I can't give you a time frame right now. He's doing well. He's doing really well."
Given the fact that Woll missed the entirety of training camp, he'll certainly need time to ramp up his activities and get back into game shape even after he does return to Toronto, so we likely shouldn't expect him back for at least a few weeks after he does report back to Toronto.
Last month, Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos hypothesized that Woll's absence would span at least a month, and that's if he makes it back to Toronto at the middle of October. If his absence stretches beyond that, the time he'll require to get back up to speed could keep him out well into November.
Thankfully, the Leafs were in a better financial position this season and they aren't sitting around and waiting. On Monday, the team claimed former Canadiens goaltending prospect Cayden Primeau. They also released Reimer from his PTO on Monday evening.
Treliving did say in his original report on the matter that the Leafs do expect Woll back at some point this season, and that the absence is due to a family issue and is not related to substance use/abuse.
With this latest update coming through, all we can do now is wait for the next update and hope that Woll is doing well as he goes through whatever he's going through.
