One major move has already been made in the dismissal of Brendan Shanahan, who served as team president for 11 years. Shanahan is reportedly drawing interest from across the league.
Following a board meeting on Thursday, MLSE CEO Keith Pelley addressed the media on Friday, touching on the Marner situation, and his lack of confidence regarding the Marner negotiations adds further fuel to the speculation that he may be as good as gone.
As per David Pagnotta on X:
"Keith Pelley, when asked about Mitch Marner's future as a Maple Leaf, said we'll see how that develops/plays out in the coming weeks."
The Maple Leafs are expected to explore moving on from Marner as they look to reshape their roster for another deep playoff run. The cap space freed up by his potential departure could give Toronto significant flexibility to make impactful additions and chart a new course forward.
