The Maple Leafs are expected to make changes in their front office, and a report regarding assistant GM Brandon Pridham has shined a light on his immediate future.
There were rumours about Brad Treliving's job being in jeopardy despite having the post for just two seasons. Fortunately, the buck stopped with Shanahan for the time being, but there is one executive in particular that has generated a lot of buzz around the league and the Leafs seem to have poured cold water on the fires starting around the league when it comes to his availability.
Brandon Pridham has been the assistant general manager for the Maple Leafs since 2018-19 and has long been ordained as the salary cap guru for the club. Prior to his promotion, he had spent the previous 4 seasons as the special assistant to the general manager.
With the Leafs expected to make a vast array of changes, Pridham's status with the Leafs seems to be solidified. According to Stefen Rosner from The Hockey News, the Leafs won't let him go unless he's in line for a promotion from his current position.
It should be interesting to note that Rosner is also a beat writer for the New York Islanders; a team that is heavily interested in Shanahan's services and in need of a general manager after parting ways with Lou Lamoriello.
It's not the first time that Pridham's name has popped up in rumours. Before naming himself as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Kyle Dubas was looking to potentially bring Pridham with him. However, it is believed that Pridham wanted to stay put in Toronto.
It will be interesting to see how things go from here, especially with the Islanders zeroing in on Shanahan as he could look to bring Pridham along for the ride if he believes that he has it in him to be an NHL general manager.
