One former NHL head coach has revealed that while he wants to return as a head coach, he would be willing to accept a lesser role, but only with the Maple Leafs.

There are a lot of things not going Toronto's way this year, but perhaps the most shocking downfall in their game is their power play, currently sitting 26th league-wide right now.
While people are pointing fingers at Brad Treliving and Craig Berube, perhaps they should start focusing their attention on Marc Savard, who is in charge of their abysmal power play.
If they're looking to make a change, there are several intriguing options available, but none stick out more than Bruce Boudreau.
Jeff Marek was a guest on Leafs Morning Take on Tuesday, and discussed the situation with host Nick Alberga, adding that Boudreau would consider joining the Maple Leafs as an assistant coach -- something Marek claimed Boudreau wouldn't do for any other team.
Bruce Boudreau has always wanted to, and still does, want to be a head coach in the NHL. He sees himself as a head coach, he's had success at every single level, and has won every single championship that he could, except for the Stanley Cup. The only team, he has always said this, that he would work as an assistant for is the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While Boudreau is still trying to make a comeback as a head coach, perhaps he can look to work his way back up the NHL ranks by doing a really good job in Toronto as an assistant coach in charge of their power play to put himself back on the map.
Moreover, there aren't too many teams looking to make a head coaching change right now, and Peter DeBoer should be looked upon as a more intriguing option first and foremost.
The Leafs' power play needs a lot of help, because outside of a 4-12 stretch over a 3-game span earlier this season, they are 6 for 51 otherwise. They are also currently 2 for their last 17 and have once again switched up their top unit by adding Easton Cowan into the mix in an attempt to shake things up.
With players like Matthews and Nylander, the Leafs should have a power play in the middle of the standings, at the very least -- if not the top of the league.
An assistant coaching change would make a lot of sense and it really does help that Boudreau is universally well-liked, respected, and really good at what he does.
