"The Toronto Maple Leafs made a huge signing on Tuesday however it wasn't the signing everybody was looking forward to hearing about. Toronto extended President Brendan Shanahan for another six years and now he'll likely play a huge part in trying to help general manager Kyle Dubas keep one of their big guns around. While Shanahan spent part of his day signing his new contract, he also sat with Dubas and Mitch Marner's agent Darren Ferris to start negotiations regarding Marner's contract extension. Sportsnet's John Shannon asked Dubas about the meeting however Dubas wouldn't give any hints. «Despite the fact that I know this is a major topic and important to our fans and the public, I'm not going to comment at all out of respect for the process,"
According to reports the Leafs don't want to pass the $9.5million mark while Marner's camp's starting point is at least $10.5million.
