Leafs GM Brad Treliving Publicly Address the Mitch Marner Situation During Media Session

Likely headed to free agency on July 1st, Mitch Marner's tenure with the Maple Leafs appears to be coming to an unfortunate end.

As the Maple Leafs and Leafs Nation await clarity on what Marner intends to do ahead of July 1st, Leafs GM Brad Treliving met with the media Thursday where he was asked about any discussions he has had with Marner since the season ended with an embarrassing Game 7 loss two weeks ago.

In speaking with the media on Thursday, Treliving was shocked he made it to the third question before someone asked about Marner's situation. Asked about where things stand with the former first-round pick, Treliving noted that they have yet to have discussions outside of their season ending meeting.

There is clearly still uncertainty on the Leafs' end of things -- not only from where Marner stands, but also in that the Leafs are unsure if they want to bring their 28-year-old winger back despite a subtle nudge to re-sign him from head coach Craig Berube.

Treliving did, however, note that a decision on Marner's future would be made over the next couple of weeks, but may have indicated Marner won't be returning as he couldn't confirm if he would be offered a contract before July 1st.
