The Maple Leafs have long been linked to top remaining UFA Jack Roslovic, but the most recent news on the Roslovic front may impact the Leafs in more ways than one.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have seemingly been linked to UFA forward Jack Roslovic since the middle of the summer, and yet with training camps already well underway, the journeyman forward is still without a contract, which has raised some eyebrows.
The prevailing thought was initially that Roslovic and the Leafs were biding their time until the Leafs can open up enough cap space to offer Roslovic a reasonable contract. However, a report from NHL Insider Chris Johnston may indicate otherwise.

NHL Insider Chris Johnston Believes Jack Roslovic Could Be Headed to Leafs' Canadian rival

Johnston revealed on Monday that Roslovic no longer appears to be a viable candidate to join the Maple Leafs. Additionally, he linked the skilled forward to two Canadian rivals.
Montreal's a team that's talked about looking for a center; Vancouver; these teams have been around Roslovic at various points; I don't see the Leafs as being as much a fit right now; they have too many forwards.
Roslovic being connected to the Vancouver Canucks is not new information, but the fact that he's now also being linked to the Montreal Canadiens is a little more concerning.
The Canadiens already broke into the playoffs last season amid a rebuild, and the addition of a player like Roslovic could make the Leafs' Atlantic Division rivals an even bigger threat.
I can't imagine that this one is going to drag out much longer, as training camps are now in the pre-season stage, and I would have to assume that whichever team ends up signing Roslovic will want him to compete in at least one or two pre-season games before the start of the 2025-26 regular season.
