The Toronto Maple Leafs have confirmed that two top young forwards, including rookie sensation Easton Cowan, are in for tonight's pre-season game against Ottawa.
The Leafs kicked off their pre-season slate of games on Sunday with a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.
It was a feisty affair, that ultimately saw the Leafs walk away with the win, led by NHLers Nicholas Robertson, Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf, as they fight for one of the final roster spots.
Ahead of Tuesday's rematch with Ottawa, the Leafs confirmed that Robertson and 2023 first-round pick Easton Cowan will suit up for their second consecutive pre-season game.
Some suspect that Cowan may begin his season in the AHL, but a solid pre-season, similar to what Fraser Minten put forth in 2023, could force the Leafs into at least giving him a few games at the start of the season.
For Robertson, however, he is in another fight for the final roster spot among forwards, with the aforementioned Jarnkrok and Kampf.
Given the Leafs' need for secondary scoring this year, as a goal scorer, Robertson may have an edge as long as he is able to prove that his defensive game has taken significant strides, and that he can be trusted in important situations by Craig Berube and the rest of the coaching staff.
