Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman noted on his most recent '32 Thoughts' podcast that Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins may be eyeing a young Maple Leafs forward.
It's no secret that Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins are going into full rebuild mode as the careers of
Sidney Crosby,
Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang wind down. In doing so, the Penguins are looking to get younger and have made a handful of moves to bring in young NHL players as well as prospects and draft picks.
As we have seen with Leafs GM Brad Treliving, General Managers have certain players they covet or like to have on their teams, and in the case of Kyle Dubas and his affinity for former Soo Greyhounds, that is no different.
However, former Greyhounds are not the only pieces Dubas may be interested in. He may have a current Maple Leaf in his sights.
Kyle Dubas Eyeing Young Maple Leafs Forward?
Friedman touched on the fact that it is well known that the Leafs have to move out some bodies from the forward group, and he revealed that the Penguins could be a landing spot for the 23-year-old Robertson.
"I had a couple of people ask me about the possibility of Nick Robertson and Pittsburgh, just because Kyle Dubas knows him. The Maple Leafs have to clear some bodies there, they've got a lot of them..."
Both teams have a lot of work to do leading up to opening night in October and could be ideal trade partners, as they both look to fill voids in their respective lineups.
