Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube will see his role with the team expand following Brendan Shanahan's departure, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.

Following the dismissal of Brendan Shanahan, MLSE CEO Keith Pelley spoke to the media on Friday where he provided a vote of confidence to GM Brad Treliving and head coach Craig Berube.
"I'm looking to work closer with (Leafs general manager Brad Treliving) and work closer with (Leafs head coach Craig Berube)," Pelley revealed on Friday afternoon.

Given his vote of confidence and direct comments about working closer with Treliving and Berube, TSN's Chris Johnston believes that Berube will have a much more influence when it comes to the roster construction in Toronto.
A bigger voice in roster construction for Berube has led to many taking his comments from Tuesday about wanting to re-sign John Tavares and Mitch Marner as an indication that both could be brought back.
Although Marner is expected to test free agency, the Leafs have just over a month to try to convince the former first-round pick to stay with his hometown team, despite the criticism and heat he has taken.
With his newfound influence, Berube will surely work alongside Brad Treliving -- with whom he has developed a strong working relationship -- to ensure that the Leafs bring in the right pieces this summer to give them the best chance possible to win in 2025-26.
