From Depth to Difference-Maker: Nick Robertson Stakes Claim for Top-Six Spot with Maple Leafs

Amid injuries, Nick Robertson seized an opportunity, and his latest performance for the Maple Leafs has led to him making a case for a long look in the top-six.
Following their third loss in a row on Friday night, Leafs head coach Craig Berube announced that Nick Robertson would return for Saturday's rematch.
At the time, William Nylander was a game-time decision after being injured in Friday's game. However, after taking warmups, Nylander was unable to play, allowing Robertson to play meaningful minutes in the Leafs' top-six, and on Auston Matthews' line to boot.
Nick Robertson Capitalizes on Opportunity
Robertson took full advantage of his opportunity in his return to the lineup, scoring the Leafs' first goal of the game on a nifty feed from rookie Easton Cowan.
It was Robertson's first goal of the season, but the fifth time in six games dating back to last season that he has scored in his return following being scratched.
Craig Berube To Give Nick Robertson Another Opportunity?
As Berube continues to search for some continuity and chemistry with his forward group, he was very pleased with the efforts of the former second-round pick on Saturday night.
Berube's comments suggest that Robertson may have finally staked a claim to a more prominent role in the lineup.
"Willy was out, so I put Robby up there. He did a good job. He added energy to that line with his speed. He ended up scoring a big goal for us, which is great. He did a good job coming in."
Trade Rumours Continue to Swirl
For the better part of two seasons, the California native has heard his name in trade rumours, but has not allowed it to affect him. He continues to go about his business and has continuously stated he's happy to be in Toronto.
So far this season, Robertson has not only seen power-play time, but the Leafs have afforded him opportunities to expand his defensive play by using him on the penalty kill as well.
If Robertson can finally put all the pieces together consistently, he may finally be given a lengthy opportunity in the top six. It will be up to him what he does with it.
