Ex-Leafs GM Kyle Dubas Shares Views on Mitch Marner Joining the Vegas Golden Knights

Former Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas has shared his views on Mitch Marner leaving Toronto and becoming a member of the Vegas Golden Knights this summer.
It has been a couple of years since Kyle Dubas walked the halls of Scotiabank Arena as General Manager of the Maple Leafs, but even after his departure, he has still kept a few tabs on his former team.
Dubas was often criticized harshly in Toronto for paying 4 forwards the kind of money that he paid them, one of which was Mitch Marner, who was awarded a 6-year deal at a little under $11M per season just before the salary cap went flat.
Obviously, the biggest news this summer was that of Marner leaving Toronto via a sign-and-trade scenario that saw him landing in Las Vegas, with the Vegas Golden Knights.
During an appearance on the Cam and Strick Podcast this week, Dubas was asked point blank about the deal and whether or not a change of pace was needed for Marner. His response was one of class and maturity.
"Yeah, I think that's the easy narrative perhaps. Awesome person, wonderful player, just started his own family... I hope it works out well for everybody. I hope it can galvanize the [Leafs], and I hope that Mitch plays well in Vegas... I'll cheer for him, and cheer for the rest of those guys to finally find their way through."
Marner was dealt to Vegas in a deal that saw the Leafs acquire veteran centre Nicolas Roy just ahead of the start of free agency.
While Dubas didn't leave Toronto on the best of terms, he has a whole different type of job on his hands now in Pittsburgh as the President of Hockey Ops and GM as he looks to rebuild the franchise.
Most importantly, Dubas does not appear to hold any grudges against the Maple Leafs organization or their players, Marner included.
