Disappointing News Coming Out of Leafs Practice: Another D Joining Jake McCabe on the Sidelines

The Leafs picked up two of four points on their quick Florida road-trip without the services of Jake McCabe and David Kampf, who have been out of the lineup since the beginning of April.

Kampf left the Leafs' April 2nd win over the Panthers at the end of the second period, while McCabe was injured in the final minutes after awkwardly going into the boards following a collision with Carter Verhaeghe.

With the team returning to practice on Friday, McCabe was absent while Kampf did some brief work before practice, indicating that they will likely miss Saturday and Sunday's back-to-back as well.

It wasn't a surprise to see the pair absent from practice, but when Oliver Ekman-Larsson did not take the ice, many reporters were surprised.

Whether Ekman-Larsson is dealing with an injury or it was just a maintenance day for the 33-year-old Swede remains unclear as he led the Leafs in ice-time on Wednesday logging slightly more than 25 minutes.

If Ekman-Larsson is unable to play this weekend, the Leafs may have to turn to someone like 23-year-old John Prokop, who recently signed with the Leafs as a free agent and is eligible to be recalled on an emergency basis, given the fact that the Leafs have just $195K in cap space.
