Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has officially provided an update on the playing statuses of defenseman Jake McCabe and forward David Kampf ahead of the Leafs' Florida trip.
As the Leafs get set for two very important games on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, the availability of both Jake McCabe and David Kampf became clearer at the Leafs' very optional practice Monday morning.
Following Saturday's game, Berube
provided a concerning update in that they were still listed as day-to-day, with no further information available.
McCabe and Kampf both took to the ice on Monday morning, but Berube confirmed that neither would be joining the team on their two-game trip to Florida, indicating that we won't see either of them in the lineup until the weekend at the earliest.
There is concern around Kampf's injury, but not nearly as much from Leafs Nation as there is for McCabe's injury, given how important he is to the team and blueline, forming one half of the Leafs' best shutdown pairing in a very long time.
Hopefully, an extra few days off will be enough time for the 31-year-old to heal the bumps and bruises, but given how cautious the Leafs have been with injuries this season, we may not see him again until Game 1 of the playoffs.
