Toronto Maple Leafs Lose Goaltender on the Waiver Wire

The Cayden Primeau experiment in Toronto is officially at an end. After being placed on waivers Friday by the Maple Leafs, Primeau has been claimed.

Primeau is headed back to the Carolina Hurricanes, the team the Maple Leafs snagged him from off waivers back in October.

The Hurricanes had signed Primeau to a one-year deal over the summer, but he didn't get the chance to suit up for the team in the regular season before he was taken by Toronto. He was needed at the time to fill the hole left by netminder Joseph Woll, who had taken a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.

Woll returned this week and is currently undergoing a conditioning stint with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

In this case, all's well that ends well for both sides. Primeau was there when needed for the Maple Leafs. His stats over three games weren't even good (4.30 GAA, .838 save percentage), but he managed to go 2-1-0 over that span; a respectable showing. Now he gets to go back to the team that signed him in the offseason and continue his career. A fitting outcome for both him and the Maple Leafs.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have recalled Dennis Hildeby from the Marlies, and he will serve as backup for Anthony Stolarz tonight as the team takes on the Boston Bruins.
