A third period blunder by Max Domi against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night almost cost the Leafs the opportunity to secure home ice advantage.

Having to play with five defensemen is certainly not ideal, but thanks to cap and roster constraints, the Leafs were unable to recall a player to replace the injured Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
While the Leafs were prepared to get creative with their lines, Max Domi may have gotten a little too creative with the puck in the third period.
On an odd-man rush that had the 30-year-old in a prime shooting position, Domi appeared to disregard shooting all together and attempted a pass that ultimately ended up back on his stick at the side of the net.
The pass-first mentality is something Leafs Nation and head coach Craig Berube have been begging Domi to get away from.
Just a few weeks ago, when he was shooting more, Berube was thrilled with Domi's play and the 2nd generation Leaf was reaping the rewards, finding the scoresheet consistently.
Last night, however, his selflessness almost cost the Leafs the opportunity to clinch home ice advantage in the first round. As the Leafs enter their final three games of the season with home ice secured, the hope is that Domi will get back to being more aggressive and shooting more.
He is at his best when he establishes himself as a legitimate shooting threat, and if the Leafs are going to go on a deep playoff run, they need Domi to be selfish at times and produce some secondary scoring.
