Public enemy number one, Sam Bennett, was up to his old tricks in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals, clipping yet another goaltender in Stuart Skinner.
Sam Bennett has had a formidable playoffs this year as he entered tonight's pivotal Game 2 matchup between his
Florida Panthers and the
Edmonton Oilers with a league-leading 12 goals.
The soon-to-be unrestricted free agent got the road team on the board early when he deposited a power play goal to give his team the lead just 2:07 into the first period. It was his 13th goal and 19th point as he also extended his goal streak to 3 games.
However, a little later in the period, the full Sam Bennett show was on display after he made contact with goaltender Stuart Skinner in his crease, which ultimately left him down on the ice and in considerable amount of pain.
Shockingly enough it wasn't his first time in Skinner's paint as Bennett was credited with a goal in Game 1 in controversial manner when he was all up in Skinner's face. After the Oilers asked for a video review, the call on the ice stood and it was deemed a good goal.
It remains to be seen if there will be any disciplinary action coming his way. However, considering this was probably one of the lighter offences he's committed thus far in the post-season, it's seems very unlikely
the Department of Safety will throw down the hammer in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Look for Bennett to keep the Oilers on their toes the rest of the way as the Panthers look to even things up before the series shifts to Florida for Games 3 and 4 next week.
