After being snubbed from orientation camp, former Leafs centre, Nazem Kadri, has a clear message for Hockey Canada ahead of the 2026 Olympic Games.
Any time that Canada has to field a team for an international tournament, there's going to be a lot of discussions and debate about who should make it, as well as who got snubbed.
That player is Nazem Kadri, and after solidifying himself as a top-6 player with some real bite to his game over the last decade plus, he feels he should've at least been invited to the orientation camp, according to Julian McKenzie of the Athletic.
"I feel like I deserve a chance. I think over the last few seasons I've certainly proven that with my statistics and the winning pedigree. I think it speaks for itself."
Over the last.4 seasons, the former Toronto Maple Leafs forward has scored 116 goals and 285 points in 317 games, while winning close to 50% of his draws, finishing 263 hits, and having won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche.
Kadri can still sway Hockey Canada over the course of the season, however he's going to be in for some tough competition, against the likes of newly added players in
Nick Suzuki,
Robert Thomas, and
Tom Wilson among others.
"Honestly, man, it would be an absolute dream come true to somehow crack that team. I've been a long shot before. I'm looking forward to giving myself an opportunity. But I understand I'm going to have to play well."
Hockey Canada demonstrated at the 4 Nations that it won't be constructing an all-star team as it wants cohesiveness and different skill sets dominating every line. Selections of
Brandon Hagel,
Anthony Cirelli, and
Sam Bennett proved that much and going into the Olympics, it will probably follow suit.
Nevertheless, Kadri has a chip on his shoulder and extra motivation heading into the 2025-26 season, as he hopes to land on Hockey Canada's radar ahead of February's Olympic Games.
