Former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill and Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos both carved into Leafs Captain Auston Matthews for his lack of accountability following a deflating Game 7.

After declining to address his health following Sunday's embarrassing Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers, Auston Matthews' comments about the team having "too many passengers" have spread like a wildfire.
The comment about the Leafs having too many passengers really didn't sit well with "Leafs Morning Take" co-host and former Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill, who went on a lengthy rant during a live broadcast on Sunday about Matthews' inability to lead by example and for not taking ownership of his poor play.
"You're supposed to make sure there are no passengers," began Rosehill. "You're supposed to invigorate the team. You're supposed inspire the team. You're supposed to lead the team.

You can't be the ghost and then say we didn't have enough guys going. You're supposed to put your hand up and say, 'I am the superstar. I've won Rocket Richard trophies, I've won Hart trophies.

I'm capable of doing special things and I didn't even do average things, so it's on me'... You've already lost, why not at least take ownership?"
On Monday, former NHLer Nick Kypreos took Matthews' comment and dug further into it, exclaiming that Matthews may not be captain material.
"Maybe he's just not the guy everybody envisioned... Auston Matthews is Malkin in Pittsburgh. Very talented, can show he can play the game as well as anybody.

Has the talent to be the best player on the ice, but Malkin is nothing if there is no #87. Matthews needs a Crosby. He can't do it being the number one guy... He's not a leader... I'm not sure he has what it takes to be the leader."
While Matthews isn't going anywhere, given the three years remaining on his deal, there are expected to be some absolutely mammoth changes to the core group of players with Mitch Marner likely being the first domino to fall.
As the Leafs clean out their lockers and hold exit interviews on Tuesday, the core is expected to meet with the media in what will surely make for an interesting day. Perhaps there will be more accountability on Tuesday than there was on Sunday.
