Ahead of their highly anticipated season opener tonight, the Maple Leafs have announced a slew of changes to their front office makeup, including a former alumni.
In what has been a changing of the guard from the coaching staff to the top executives in the organization in recent seasons, the Toronto Maple Leafs have continued that trend earlier today by hiring several news members to head very important tasks for the foreseeable future.
The Leafs have hired Eric Lacroix and Steven Reinprecht as Pro Scouts, Mikael Kotkaniemi as a European Amateur Scout, and Mark Giordano as a Coaching Advisor for the Toronto Marlies, the team announced via social media on Wednesday.
Reinprecht is a former NHLer who played in 663 games across 11 seasons with 5 different clubs including the Calgary Flames. Reinprecht also has some ties to GM Brad Treliving from his playing days in Phoenix where Treliving was the assistant general manager at that time.
Lacroix is another former NHLer who played in 472 games across 8 seasons with 5 different clubs, including the Leafs. He was drafted in 1990 by the Leafs in the 7th round and appeared in 3 games during the 1993-94 season.
Kotkaniemi played several years of professional hockey in the Finnish and German leagues during the 1990s. The 56-year-old is also the father of current NHLer,
Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who currently plays for Carolina.
Giordano, as we all remember, played for the Leafs in parts of 3 seasons between 2021 and 2024. He accumulated 45 points in 144 games but was better known for his days in Calgary, under Treliving's regime, where he won the James Norris Trophy in 2019.
All 4 gentlemen will be playing a massive role in the recruitment and development of future Maple Leafs for years to come from North America and Europe. They're all very interesting hires, some with previous ties to the club or to Treliving, adding a bit of familiarity to the front office makeup.
