Former NHLer, Spittin' Chiclets co-host and harsh Leafs critic Ryan Whitney has made some surprising comments about the Maple Leafs ahead of season opener.

Paul Bissonnette is usually the one from the Spittin' Chiclets podcast that is making boisterous predictions about the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, it seems like the tides are shifting with Ryan Whitney now joining the party.
Sponsored by DraftKings, Whitney concluded that the bet of the year, in relation to future props, could be taking the over on the Maple Leafs' current points prop, which is set at 99.5. He proceeded to then reveal how intrigued he was by their Stanley Cup odds as well.
"I think they're an absolute wagon and I don't even hate the 19 to 1 odds to win the Stanley Cup. It's a hell of a squad. It's deep, it's heavier, I don't love the D, but they're not bad."
His only knock is the defense, which is a bit surprising, considering how much they've improved in recent years. Keith Yandle was quick to point out that having the same group of guys coming back the following season, unchanged, could be a massive benefit.
"They haven't had changeover, at least they're still the same guys, they at least have the same group."

Bissonnette, too, spoke his mind about the Leafs, claiming that Morgan Rielly's off-season changes could be the x-factor on the back-end.
"Morgan Rielly has lost a lot of weight, he looks unbelievable right now. That's the one knock you can say about the Leafs is they don't have a true number one back there, but I just love how it's been distributed, not only the money, but the ice."

The Maple Leafs are certainly a much different team than we've seen in years past. They're now deep at every position, and that bodes well for the 2025-26 season.
As the Leafs prepare for tonight's home opener, don't be surprised if they started the season out with a bang and go on to win the Atlantic Division once again.
