The Toronto Maple Leafs held a board of directors meeting on Thursday where they came to a decision on the future of President Brendan Shanahan.

Brendan Shanahan joined the Maple Leafs in 2014 and signed an extension that was set to expire on June 30th.
On Wednesday, it was reported New York Islanders sought and received permission to speak to the former Stanley Cup Champion, indicating that Shanahan knew his time in Toronto was up.
Shanahan's suspicious, as well as the numerous reports about his future were confirmed on Thursday afternoon as the Leafs announced that his contract would not be renewed, officially ending his 11-year tenure with the organization.
In his statement on the decision not to renew Shanahan's contract, MLSE President & CEO Keith Pelley thanked Shanahan for his time, but noted that "a new voice was required to take the team to the next level in the years ahead".
After another disappointing playoff performance that ended with an underwhelming Game 7 performance Sunday night and just two series wins in 9 post-season appearances over 11 years, the writing was on the wall for the Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup Champion after years of avoiding the unemployment line by shuffling the management group below him.
In an off-season that has Leafs Nation expecting major changes on and off the ice, this was the first domino to fall in what will be a very intriguing summer for the organization and its fans.
