Newly acquired forward Nicolas Roy revealed this week who he consulted to learn about what to expect from life as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Trade talks between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs regarding Mitch Marner reportedly really picked up during the second day of the NHL Entry Draft.
Within a few days, both sides came to an agreement with the Leafs acquiring centre Nicolas Roy as part of the exchange. It was a trade that had to be made, considering the Maple Leafs were just a few days away from losing Marner to free agency for nothing.
Being able to acquire a defensively responsible top-9 centre like Roy will come in handy in Craig Berube's system and he's excited for the opportunity.
In his sit down interview with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill on 'Leafs Morning Take' this week, Roy touched on a lot of topics, including who he spoke to shortly after being traded to the Maple Leafs.
Roy mentioned that it was Steven Lorentz, who he had spent time with in the minors as a member of the Charlotte Checkers, as well as Ryan Reaves, who he bumped into at the airport, ironically enough, who have shared some information about life in Toronto and as a member of the Maple Leafs organization.
"I played with Steven Lorentz a little bit in the minors, so I talked a little bit to him. Obviously Ryan Reaves, I played with him for a few years back in Vegas. Fortunate enough, when I was coming back from Vegas, we met at the airport, so we got to talk a little bit about the guys, the city, and a little bit of everything."
Reaves has had quite the off-season with the Maple Leafs after having requested a trade before being dealt to San Jose.
He also backed up Mitch Marner and accused fans of being too harsh with the star forward. But, even through all of that, he still speaks fondly of the Leafs, at least according to Roy.
With the Maple Leafs, Roy will have every opportunity to excel, considering their need for a top-9 centre. He recorded a career-high 41 points in 2023-24 and has tallied 30+ points in 4 straight seasons dating back to 2021-22.
The 28-year-old should play a key role for the Leafs over the next couple of seasons, and he's signed through the end of the 2026-27 campaign at just $3 million against the cap. That cost-certainty will come in handy with the cap exponentially increasing.
