Leafs and Golden Knights Reportedly Hammering Out a Sign-and-Trade for Mitch Marner

On day two of the NHL Entry Draft, TSN's Darren Dreger and Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman are both reporting that Mitch Marner may be on the verge of becoming a member of the Vegas Golden Knights as the Leafs and Golden Knights are attempting to facilitate what could be a sign-and-trade.

This past week, it was revealed that Marner may have been spotted in Las Vegas looking at houses, which sent the fans and media into a bit of a frenzy.

Matters only intensified when Leafs GM Brad Treliving confirmed on Thursday that Marner and the Leafs are more than likely headed towards a split and a fresh start.

On Saturday, both Dreger and Friedman revealed that while original reports suggested that Marner could walk via free agency on July 1st, it's looking increasingly possible that Marner does work with the Leafs to facilitate a sign-and-trade to ensure that the Leafs get some assets back for him on his way out. Friedman also listed Nicolas Roy among the pieces that would be headed back to Toronto in the deal, if it happens.

If this does indeed occur, Marner will positively influence his legacy in Toronto, which was looking pretty rough after the end of the Leafs' disappointing playoff run.

Marner is reportedly looking for as much as $14M-$15M on the open market, if he does indeed head to July 1st without a deal. Of course, a sign-and-trade would ensure that Marner would never reach free agency.
