A surprising new report has emerged regarding two veteran Maple Leafs players who previously seemed likely to be on their way out of Toronto.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs' offseason progresses, their newly restructured roster appears to be nearing completion.
However, the roles of veterans Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf remain uncertain, with questions lingering about where they fit into the team's overall plans.
Despite earlier speculation that both players could be traded, recent reports suggest that trade talks surrounding Jarnkrok and Kampf have cooled -- further muddying the waters about their future roles with the club.
Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff offered some insight into the situation, as shared by NHL Rumour Report on X:
"Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf are top candidates (at least on paper) to be cleared out; there doesn't seem to have been any talks recently to potentially move either player."

Maple Leafs' Latest Moves Complicate Lineup Decisions

Recently, restricted free agent Nicholas Robertson signed a new deal with the Maple Leafs ahead of his arbitration hearing, agreeing to a 1 year $1.825 million contract to avoid the hearing altogether.
In addition, the acquisition of Dakota Joshua from the Vancouver Canucks adds another layer of complexity to the team's forward group. Joshua is expected to be an everyday player in the bottom six, further limiting available spots for Jarnkrok and Kampf.
One thing is clear -- having depth is never a bad problem to have. While it provides flexibility for the Maple Leafs, it creates uncertainty -- and less ice-time for veterans like Jarnkrok and Kampf, amongst others.
The most likely outcome here appears to be having everyone stick around for training camp to keep the level of competition high. During or immediately following training camp, though, expect to see one or two players moved, as having 15 NHL forwards doesn't make much sense when you can only have 12 in the lineup on any given night.
