Pending free agent and Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is doing his best to make himself the villain before he departs Toronto with his latest announcement.

Last summer, amid constant pressuring from the media about contract negotiations and a potential extension, Mitch Marner denied all Leafs questions at last year's Marner Assist Fund All-Star Invitational Charity event with Sportsnet and TSN both being told not to attend.
While it was an odd request, it was understandable given that the event's purpose is to provide opportunities and resources for youth and focuses on helping them develop for the future.

Mitch Marner Makes Unfortunate Announcement About His Annual Charity Event in Toronto

As Marner appears to be ghosting the Maple Leafs ahead of free agency, appearing destined to find a new home, the foundation announced that this summer's event, which was scheduled for July 10th and 11th, has been cancelled.
"After thoughtful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event, scheduled for July 10th and 11th.

The uncertainty around Mitch's summer schedule makes it challenging to plan responsibly. Out of respect for the time and commitment of our partners and supporters, we feel it's best to make this decision now.

While we are disappointed not to come together this year, the Foundation will continue to honour all its commitments to charitable partners," read the post shared by Jonah Sigel of YYZ Sports Media
Not returning calls from the Leafs and not helping to facilitate a sign-and-trade is one thing, but to cancel a charity event due to the 'uncertainty' of a schedule is a bit ridiculous.
Yes, things come up, but in the summer, to cancel an event when it has been held at the same time year-over-year because you are not sure of where you will be playing is a bit out of touch.
Kids from around the GTA look forward to the event in the hopes of seeing some of their favourite players. Marner's decision is only robbing the kids of that opportunity.
