While former Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner ran from the pressure of Toronto, Matthew Knies has a much different stance of playing under the bright lights of Canada's hockey mecca.

The trade rumours and pressure of playing under the spotlight for his hometown team ultimately cumulated in Mitch Marner leaving Toronto for less pressure and a more private lifestyle in Las Vegas.
Over the past few seasons and playoff disappointments, Leafs Nation and the Toronto media has put a tremendous amount of blame on the former Leafs winger --whether it was deserved or not. While Auston Matthews, John Tavares and William Nylander also came under pressure, they seemed to embrace it far more and much better than the 28-year-old.
With Marner out, rising star Matthew Knies has unofficially become the new member of the 'Core 4' after signing a six-year extension ahead of July 1st.
The 22-year-old had a breakout sophomore season skating on the Leafs' top line, tallying 29 goals and 58 points in 78 games. Poised to be counted on to produce even more without Marner, Knies appeared on Daily Faceoff's 'Morning Cuppa Coffee' Wednesday, where he gushed over what it's like playing in Toronto.
"I love the snow. It makes you feel like you're in hockey season. I love the city. There's so much to do, so much to see. I love the buzz for the city - how invested people are. It's cool to be a part of it."
Compared to Marner, who seemingly cracked under pressure, Knies has quickly built a reputation for thriving under it -- especially in the post-season. While he didn't produce a point-per-game, the former second-round pick did something Marner never did in Toronto; scored timely goals in the playoffs.
As Knies is looked upon to provide more offensively and defensively next season, he certainly seems up to the task and Leafs Nation should be excited to see him develop over the next six seasons.
