Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving met with the media on Monday and revealed what the plan is for veteran goaltender James Reimer.

The Toronto Maple Leafs found themselves in a bit of a precarious position last week when Joseph Woll was forced to take a sudden leave of absence from the team at the start of training camp to deal with an emergent family issue.
The Leafs' depth at the position was tested in camp, but they were able to increase the workloads of Anthony Stolarz, Artur Akhtyamov, Dennis Hildeby and Vyacheslav Peksa, leading to the eventual decision to bring back former Leaf James Reimer on a PTO.
While Reimer has made a few on-ice appearances for the Leafs thus far, he has not yet skated in any pre-season games and continues to work with the Marlies group, as opposed to skating with the Leafs' main group. Hildeby also backed up Stolarz at today's main NHL practice, despite figuring to play starting G minutes for the Marlies this season.
On Monday morning, Brad Treliving addressed the elephant in the room, revealing what the real plan for Reimer is in the absence of Woll, noting that there was no update on Woll, meaning that the timeline for his return is still unknown.
"We know what James is. We're going to take the next couple of days to let him get his feet under him. You can never have too much depth at the position. With Joe's situation, wanted to make sure we've got options."
Reimer will not accompany the rest of the main group in Muskoka for the team-building event this week, and will instead remain in Toronto to get more reps in.
With this in mind, it looks like the plan is for Reimer to get back up to speed to ready himself to play backup to the newly extended Stolarz on opening night, though the ultimate decision will be made by the coaching staff before October 8th.
