As some Leafs hit the road to Ottawa for Sunday's game, others hit the ice for practice where the club got mixed news on injuries to Nicolas Roy and Simon Benoit.
Both Nicolas Roy and Simon Benoit were absent from Saturday's practice and scrimmage as they nursed injuries ahead of Sunday's pre-season opener.
Following Saturday's practice, head coach Craig Berube updated reporters on their statuses, noting that Roy was 'nicked up' with a lower-body injury, but was unable to say much about Benoit's upper-body injury.
On Sunday, the Leafs saw Max Domi return to the ice after not skating with the main group since the start of camp as he recovers from a lower-body injury. Roy also skated on Sunday, which is great news for the Leafs.
Roy's return to practice saw him reunited with Dakota Joshua as Berube appears set to keep them together with his preference of pairing up two forwards on every line for chemistry's sake.
Unfortunately, Benoit was absent from practice for a second consecutive day, indicating his injury could be more severe than initially thought.
With Benoit's absence, it opens the door for the likes of Henry Thrun and Philippe Myers to create opportunities for themselves as they battle for one of the final roster spots on the blueline.
As Benoit misses his second consecutive practice with his injury, goaltender Joseph Woll was also absent on Sunday as he continues to deal with an illness that held him out of scrimmages on Saturday.
